Issue Position: Iran Nuclear Deal

Issue Position

Today I'm asking you to join me by demanding a NO vote on the Iran Nuclear Deal! I'm also asking you to help me remind Senator Bennet that if he supports this agreement, I will lead the charge in holding him accountable for this vote in 2016.

The proposed Iran Nuclear Deal purports to hold Iran accountable to the signatory nations, in return for benefit relief to Iran. The sanctions that have been applied to Iran were designed to bring Iran to the negotiating table and END Iran's efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. This document would denigrate the effect of those sanctions, allowing Iran to have nuclear capabilities within a few years. The inspection requirements do not possess any "no notice" abilities for verification of compliance, rendering any inspection program void of actual accountability.

Though Iran has continuously proven untrustworthy, the current administration remains focused on rehabilitating the President's failed legacy; brokering a "deal" with Iran that will not end their program to develop nuclear weapons. The supreme leader of Iran has declared hatred for our nation, publicly stating he will oppose any deal with the United States of America. And yet, this "deal" offers relief of sanctions. It helps Iran further bankroll unrest in the Middle East.

Too many unanswered questions remain with the proposed Iran Nuclear Deal. For instance, side agreements with other organizations like the IAEA are not available for review or evaluation. This leaves us continuing the mistakes of the past, repeating a philosophy of "we should wait until it is passed to see wat it contains." That's unacceptable--and dangerous. Additionally, there are no provisions for the release of American citizens being held against their will in Iran. Of equal importance, this Nuclear Deal does not call for Iran's formal recognition of one of our strategic allies, Israel.

Lastly, while the President's administration is trying to present this as a "deal", it is actually a treaty--calling it something else changes nothing. And in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, Article 2 Section 2 states, "…He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided …" there is the requirement that the U.S. Senate has the final approval authority for any treaty. This needs to be reemphasized throughout the government, so any future efforts of this type are treated appropriately.

Join me TODAY and demand a NO vote on the Iran Nuclear Deal!
