Everett Announces Passage of Agricultural Appropriations Act With $6.1 Million for Alabama Agriculture Research Projects

CONGRESSMAN TERRY EVERETT ANNOUNCES PASSAGE OF AGRICULTURAL APPROPRIATIONS ACT
WITH $6.1 MILLION FOR ALABAMA AGRICULTURE RESEARCH PROJECTS

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Act (HR 2744) Wednesday with $6.1 million in funding for Alabama research projects, Congressman Terry Everett, R-Rehobeth, announced.

"I am pleased to report that a range of beneficial agriculture studies have been funded in the 2006 Agriculture Appropriations Act," said Everett, a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee.

"As Alabama's top industry, agriculture is an important investment in jobs and our economy. Federal funding to make agriculture production more efficient and profitable positively impacts the state.

"For Southeast Alabama, I requested over a half million dollars in funding for an ongoing study into a sod-based peanut crop rotation production system. This will be the fifth year the Tri-States Peanut Research is jointly conducted by Auburn University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Florida," Everett added.

- Tri-State Peanut Research - $563,000
- Catfish Disease Research - $1,000,000
- Catfish Genome Research - $1,000,000
- Soil Dynamics Lab-Land Grant Alliance - $1,450,000
- Soil Dynamics Lab-Crop Improvement Practices - $995,000
- Precision Agriculture-Forestry - $599,000
- Alabama Beef Connection - $390,000
- Horse Fly Vaccine Research - $200,000
