Issue Position: Stand Strong for Women

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

Almost half of all workers in America are women, and working mothers are the primary breadwinners for 40% of American families. Yet, 52 years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act, women earn only $.78 for each dollar that a man earns for the identical job. For women of color, that gap is even greater. Our community is full of single income families and two-income families in which women are the lead earner who are severely impacted by this wage inequality.

I strongly support women in the workplace because it's critical for strong families in our community, especally for those who are led by working women who have children. In Congress, I will fight for paycheck fairness, paid sick and medical leave, and increasing the minimum wage.

I support a woman's right to choose and believe that women should continue to have access to preventative health and family planning services.

I oppose radical efforts to defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood provides essential, life-saving health care to millions of women, including cancer screenings and birth control. It's appalling that right wing extremists are willing to jeopardize the health of many women just to pursue their partisan anti-choce abortion agenda.
