Issue Position

Having watched my parents struggle when they were denied health insurance, my support of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is deeply personal. While the ACA is not perfect, it makes real improvements in our health care system. Because of ACA, thousands of Nevadans have access to quality, affordable health care for the first time and pre-existing conditions cannot be used to deny care.

I will work to improve the quality and cost of health care and health insurance for the middle class. By streamlining the administration of medicine and making the system more efficient, we will be able to make health care more affordable for everyone.

I also strongly support allowing Medicare to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices, which it is currently prohibited from doing. For many seniors, the cost of prescription drugs has become more prohibitive. Medicare can reduce costs for seniors -- and for taxpayers -- by negotiating for lower prices and finding ways to make the system more efficient. This will help reduce prescription drug prices for all Americans, not just retirees.
