Paulsen: Uncompetitive U.S. Tax Code Harms Minnesota's Small Businesses

Press Release

Date: Feb. 24, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

In a House Ways and Means Committee hearing entitled "Global Tax Environment in 2016 and Implications for International Tax Reform," Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) spoke about the effect that an uncompetitive U.S. tax code has on small businesses and local economies in Minnesota. Paulsen highlighted the effects on a local economy when a company is forced to move its headquarters overseas to a country with a more competitive tax structure.

Paulsen commented on the hearing, "We need a modern tax code that will grow family paychecks, small businesses, and our economy. Bringing our tax code into the 21st century means keeping companies in the U.S. and attracting others from around the world. Even more than that, fixing a broken tax code will benefit American workers and small businesses who thrive when their local economies are strong."

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
