Pearce Statement on Obama Administration's Plan to Close Guantanamo

Statement

Date: Feb. 23, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement after the Administration announced their plan to close Guantanamo Bay prison:

"Last fall, Congress passed and President Obama signed into law legislation prohibiting the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United States, or closing the facility. Yet, today the President reiterated his intentions to close the facility, despite longstanding prohibitions by Congress. Once again, the President is focusing on campaign promises and legacy builders over the will and safety of the American public. In a time when so many in this country and around the world continue to feel increasingly unsafe, we cannot let a misguided Commander in Chief stand in the way of protecting the United States and our allies," said Congressman Pearce.
