Pearce's Statement on Bill to Prevent FCC Rate Regulation

Statement

Date: April 15, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, issued the following statement after the House overwhelmingly passed H.R. 2666 the No Rate Regulation of Broadband Internet Access Act:

"In February 2015, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Obama Administration passed new internet access requirements, known as net neutrality, without input from Congress or the American people. These rules impede growth and innovation in our technology sector, and limit internet access for Americans around the nation. At that time, the Administration and FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler promised that the FCC would not regulate the cost of broadband services by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). This was a short lived promise. In March 2016, Chairman Wheeler contradicted himself declaring the FCC should be setting the cost of internet service. Such regulation by the FCC is extremely harmful to ISPs and customers alike, as these unnecessary government regulations discourage the tech sector from investing in new infrastructure and development in our communities and offering new and innovative plans to customers that will increase their access and use of the internet.

"H.R. 2666 prohibits the FCC from regulating the cost of broadband service by internet providers -- codifying the promise made by the Administration. It provides stability for ISPs, protects consumers, and denies the FCC yet another opportunity to force regulations on the American people," said Congressman Steve Pearce.
