Kuster Releases Statement Condemning House Votes to Suspend Planned Parenthood Funding

Statement

Date: Sept. 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) issued the following statement condemning the House vote to suspend federal funding for Planned Parenthood. Kuster has proudly supported pro-choice policies and Planned Parenthood since she first took office, and today she voted against the proposed measure that would suspend federal funding to the organization for one year:

"Planned Parenthood serves as a vital resource to women who are seeking reproductive and other health services in the Granite State and across the country," said Congresswoman Kuster. "I am disappointed by this most recent attack on women's health by extremist, ideological lawmakers in Congress during today's votes to freeze the organization's federal funding. The federal funding that Planned Parenthood receives does not pay for abortions, and I am astonished that my Republican colleagues have decided to halt funding, which in reality supports a myriad of crucial services that women across the country rely on from Planned Parenthood, from cancer screenings and flu vaccinations to birth control prescriptions and general health care services. Despite the outcome of today's vote, I will continue to fight for women's health services at the federal level, and I urge my colleagues not to let such extremist, partisan games interfere with ensuring women across the country can access the health services they need and deserve."
