Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on U.S. Supreme Court Nomination

Statement

Date: March 16, 2016
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Judicial Branch

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement today after President Barack Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland, Chief Judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to fill the vacant seat on the U.S. Supreme Court:

"Chief Judge Garland has more federal judicial experience than any other Supreme Court nominee in history, and was previously confirmed to the D.C. Circuit Court by the U.S. Senate on a strong bipartisan vote of 76 to 23. He has proven to be an impartial judge and is uniquely qualified to serve on the High Court.

"Americans are sick and tired of partisan gridlock in Washington. It is time for Senate Republicans to do their job. The Senate has a constitutional responsibility to consider Judge Garland's nomination. While each Senator has the right to vote against a nominee, they cannot simply obstruct and refuse to act.

"Hardworking Americans get up every day and go to work. They expect Senate Republicans to do their job as well."
