Congressman Dan Kildee Works with STARS, Federal Transportation Authority to Keep Buses Operating in Saginaw

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee today applauded news that the Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS) regular bus service would be maintained for city residents after working for weeks with STARS and the Federal Transportation Authority (FTA) to resolve an issue with federal grant payments.

On January 6th, a $600,000 federal grant from the FTA was frozen, meaning that unless today's solution was reached, STARS buses would have likely ceased operating for Saginaw residents. After being contacted by STARS Director Sylvester Payne, Congressman Kildee and his office met with both STARS and the FTA and worked over the course of the last month to resolve the issue.

"I am happy to see that buses will keep rolling in Saginaw and that STARS operations will continue for city residents," Congressman Kildee said. "Working with State Representative Vanessa Guerra, quick action in this situation helped to avoid Saginaw losing critical federal public transportation grants. Many residents rely every day on the Saginaw bus system and I am glad to see it will not be interrupted."
