Pompeo Praises Passage of Every Student Succeeds Act

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: K-12 Education

Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) praised yesterday's House passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which would replace the No Child Left Behind Act with reforms that take positive steps toward decreasing the federal footprint in public education, including eliminating the Common Core mandate.

"Every time I am back in the district I make it a priority to visit a local Kansas school, and there has never been a time that a student, parent, teacher, or administrator has asked for more federal government restrictions and power over how to teach our kids," Pompeo said. "The Every Student Succeeds Act will move us away from Washington's "one-size-fits-all' No Child Left Behind system that has been to the detriment of our children's education, and give the power back to parents and educators. Moving the decision-making closer to home will provide better results for our students, which is everyone's goal."
