Huelskamp Reaffirms Constitution

Press Release

Date: March 17, 2016

Congressman Tim Huelskamp joined House colleagues to reaffirm Article 1 of the Constitution, which establishes the legislative branch of the federal government, with their vote for H. Res. 639. After a barrage of the Barack Obama's attempts to overrule the Constitution, the House today made a clear statement: "The House and Senate make the laws. It is Obama's duty, not to make or rewrite laws, but he "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.'"

Huelskamp remarked, "Obama supposedly taught Constitutional Law. But in his radical attempt to impose his views on America, he has spent nearly eight years attacking our constitutional structure and seeking to expand his 'imperial presidency.'"

The resolution received unanimous support from Republicans, with five Democrats supporting the bill.

Congressman Huelskamp also cosponsored a bill to ensure that before a federal agency imposes rules and mandates on Americans, they must first address and answer questions raised by Congress. The Preventing Overreach Within the Executive Rulemaking System (POWERS) Act would prohibit federal agencies from finalizing rules while there are outstanding questions from members of Congress.

"Bureaucrats at federal agencies must not be allowed to finalize rules affecting our nation without legitimately considering comments and addressing questions from those actually elected by the American people."
