Huelskamp Opposes EPA Proposal to Raise Energy Rates for Families and Small Businesses

Press Release

Date: Dec. 1, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) continued his long history of fighting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans that harms Kansans. Huelskamp joined colleagues in the House to pass two resolutions of disapproval of the Clean Power Plan rule (here and here) that would raise electricity rates for Kansans. The latest heavy-handed rule claims minor potential benefits to the environment while significantly harming families and small businesses, including farms.

"As most of Kansas' electricity is generated by coal, we would face a very significant impact of these onerous regulations proposed by the EPA.

"We all want to protect the environment -- we live off the land, and we have made significant progress without dictates from Washington. Today the House disapproved today of these radical regulations that would raise energy bills, hurting the poor and those on fixed incomes, while providing little environmental benefit.

"I will continue to fight against Washington's unreasonable heavy-handed rules affecting our economy and our livelihoods."
