Pittenger Helps Repeal Part of Obamacare

Statement

Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger joined a bipartisan majority to pass the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015, which repeals portions of Obamacare, supports job growth, funds our troops, and protects seniors. The budget passed today with a bipartisan vote of 266-167.

"Constituents sent me to Washington to undo the broken promises of Obamacare. One of my first pieces of legislation was a repeal of Obamacare's Auto-Enroll provision, which forces businesses to enroll employees in the company health plan, whether or not they want it or need it. The repeal of this provision was included in the budget deal, and will help protect American jobs."

The Auto-Enroll provision of Obamacare requires employers to automatically enroll all new full-time employees in the company health plan. This forces some employees to purchase health insurance they may not want or need, including students working temporary jobs while still covered by their parent's health insurance. In addition, the expense of rapidly enrolling and de-enrolling temporary, seasonal employees from the company health plan prevents job growth and slows the economy.

"Today's passage of a bipartisan budget deal is a good step forward for America. The budget deal protects jobs, strengthens funding for our troops, protects seniors from a costly Medicare premium increase next year, and repeals the illogical Auto-Enroll provision of Obamacare, which I have worked to repeal for more than two years," said Congressman Pittenger (NC-09).

Other provisions of the Bipartisan Budget Act include:

Strengthens funding for our brave troops

No tax increases

New spending is fully offset with mandatory spending cuts and additional savings

Reforms Social Security Disability Insurance to close loopholes, increases incentives to return to work, stops fraud, and prevents a 20% cut to benefits.

Prevents an expected 50% increase in Medicare Part B premiums

Includes entitlement reforms to save taxpayers over $30 billion.
