Congressman Pittenger Helps Draft Proposal To Avoid Government Shutdown, Restore Fiscal Sanity To Washington

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has threatened to shut down the government without increased funding for the IRS and EPA. To prevent a lapse in government services, Congressman Robert Pittenger has helped draft a counter-proposal to fund the government while sticking to a common-sense budget.

"Hardworking American families stick to a budget and make thoughtful decisions about priorities. Why should Washington bureaucrats be any different?" asked Congressman Pittenger, who serves on the Steering Committee for the influential Republican Study Committee. "Our proposal includes the 12 appropriations bills which have been carefully vetted through the normal process. We made responsible choices. Washington must learn how to budget."

In addition to a responsible plan to prevent a government shutdown, the RSC's Responsible Spending and Accountability Act of 2015 includes provisions to prohibit federal funding for all abortion providers, prohibit the sale of baby body parts, and block President Obama from lifting sanctions on Iran.

"How can any human defend the sale of a little baby's body parts? Why should federal taxpayers support organizations that rob little ones of their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? As a strong supporter of life, I will support these and other measures to protect life," said Congressman Pittenger.

The Republican Study Committee's proposal would fund the government for all of FY2016 and prevent another tiresome series of crisis, short-term spending plans, and back room deals.
