Allen: After Six Years of Obamacare, Americans Deserve Better

Statement

U.S. Congressman Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) issued the following statement on the House's vote to override the President's recent veto of H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. This vote needed a 2/3 majority to pass, and failed by a vote of 241-186.

"Over the past year, I have consistently heard from Georgians of the 12th District about the burdens Obamacare has inflicted. I have heard from families who lost their coverage, small business owners whose premiums have doubled and individuals who predict a large and growing percentage of their income will go towards their healthcare plan. Recently, the Congressional Budget Office showed deficits rising due to expanding costs of federal healthcare. When will this Administration wake up? This law is crushing economic growth and even worse--it is crushing Americans and American families.

The President should ask himself if the sake of a political legacy was worth all of this. It's not. After six long years of Obamacare, Americans deserve better.

Despite the partisanship shown in today's vote, I was still proud to stand up and be a voice of those I represent. It's time that the legislative and executive branches stand united for a common cause: the American people, and once and for all establish healthcare policy that is cost-effective and patient-centered."
