Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Surface Transportation Reauthorization & Reform Act of 2015, a long-term reauthorization to fund highway projects. This bill ends the cycle of short-term reauthorizations and finally gives states and local governments some funding assurance. Representative Westmoreland voted in favor of the funding bill and issued the following statement:
"This highway bill is a step in the right direction," stated Westmoreland. "I am thankful for the open process that took place, and that good reforms were able to be debated and implemented.
"For years, I have been advocating for a six year, long-term highway reauthorization. Today, I supported the long-term highway bill, but I continue to have serious reservations about funding provisions for this important program. I hope that during Conference Committee we are able to find funding for the remaining three years of the bill so I can continue to give it my support."
