Taxpayers pay an estimated $120,000 for the education of each student from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Americans should have more say in how that money is spent. My experience with my own children has shown me that no "one size fits all" education exists, and Washington should not be in the business of trying to create such a system. No Child Left Behind has made the important job of education more difficult for our teachers and schools because it removed local control.
I supported and voted for the Student Success Act, which would return education decision-making to the states and encourage localized reform. Giving parents the ability to choose safe and effective schools will encourage innovation and bring accountability to failing systems.
