Issue Position: Texas Economy

Issue Position

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, three hundred forty eight thousand jobs were created in Texas last year. Further, over the last ten years, a total of one fourth of all the jobs created in the United States were created right here in the great State of Texas.

This type of economic activity did not happen by accident. In order to create such a positive economic environment, we have focused on several items. First, we believe in being a truly fiscally conservative state. This means that both from a personal perspective and a governmental perspective, we do not spend more than we make. And when the State does spend the hard earned tax dollars of our citizens, we spend it in a responsible manner. Second, we believe in low taxes. We believe that the people of Texas know how to best spend their own money. Therefore, the State should leave as much money as possible in the hands of those who earned it. Third, we believe in creating a welcoming environment for business. This involves not only responsible regulation, but also predictable regulation from the State. Having both of these items encourages business to thrive in Texas. Finally, we believe in having the best schools possible. Without an educated workforce, our economy will stall. We believe in giving students options to pursue whatever career path they desire. The State should not be involved in selecting what option each student chooses. The State's goal should be to provide the options to each student and let the student choose their own path. After all, personal freedom has always been the central goal of Texans.
