Ellmers Votes to Strengthen National Security Amidst Terrorist Threats

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) voted to support H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015 to implement robust and enhanced security measures in order to secure the American people.

"The President's own national security advisors* have repeatedly warned that the U.S. government is not prepared for an influx of refugees, and they have made it clear that we lack the appropriate resources to fully vet refugees from Syria--yet our president is willing to turn a deaf ear to his own counsel and risk the very safety of our nation. However, we in the People's Chamber have taken heed to this warning, and today we took a critical step to prevent ISIS and radical Islamic extremist groups from invading our country."

"As elected representatives, our foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of all Americans. Given that ISIS has vowed to use the refugee system to enter Western countries, we must take every precaution possible. This is why I was proud to co-sponsor and vote for H.R. 4038 today, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015, as it will implement a superior vetting process for refugees. This legislation requires the Director of the FBI to work in conjunction with the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence to unanimously certify and affirm that each refugee will not pose a security threat."

"For the sake of American national security, this is legislation that both Chambers and the White House should overwhelmingly support. I cannot stress enough the importance in each of you contacting your senator and the White House--tell them to fulfil their number one duty as public servants and protect Americans from enemies, both foreign and domestic."
