Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro, CT-3, today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Secretary of Defense's decision to open all combat roles to women:

"Secretary Carter's decision to open all combat roles to women is a step in the right direction for our military and our country. For decades, women have served in our military with honor and distinction during times of peace and war, including in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am confident that this decision will keep our military strong while allowing women to have accomplished careers with the United States military."
