Gov. Perry Signs Legislation Honoring President Ronald Reagan

Today Gov. Rick Perry signed two bills that will designate portions of two Texas highways as Ronald Reagan Memorial Highways.

"President Ronald Reagan was a leading force for freedom in the latter half of the 20th Century. His optimistic leadership guided our country out of the malaise of the 1970s, helped us regain our national pride, ended the Cold War, and reestablished the United States as the beacon of hope for those yearning to be free," Perry said.

House Bill 55 (Grusendorf) would designate Interstate Highway 20, between the border of Tarrant and Parker Counties and the eastern boundary of the City of Grand Prairie, as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway. House Bill 540 (Bohac) designates U.S. Highway 290 in Harris County between the Waller County line and Beltway 8 as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway.

The Texas Department of Transportation is directed to design, construct, and erect memorial makers if a grant or donation of money is made for this purpose.

This bill would take effect September 1, 2005.
