Gardner Votes To Repeal Obamacare

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the following statement today after voting to repeal Obamacare in the United State Senate:

"As I travel throughout Colorado, I continue to hear about Obamacare's devastating impact. Whether it's a family on the Western Slope who saw their premiums shoot through the roof, or a business owner in the San Luis Valley who would like to hire and expand but can't afford to due to the law's mandates, Coloradans are suffering from Obamacare's broken promises.

"The Obama Administration promised Americans that this law would bring down costs, expand choices, and allow them to keep the plans and doctors they liked. Instead, more than five years after the law passed, thousands in our state have faced huge premium increases, reductions in benefits, and the cancellation of their plans.

"Obamacare added billions in government spending and raised taxes on millions of Americans, but we have precious little to show for it. Even the healthcare CO-OP established in Colorado by Obamacare has collapsed, taking millions in taxpayer loans with it and causing thousands to lose coverage. It's time for a new approach, one that is patient-centered and focuses on reducing costs and increasing choices."

Coloradans have endured massive increases in health care costs. In October, the Denver Business Journal reported that individual health insurance costs are rising "steeply", while KJCT8 in Grand Junction reported that rates for some people could increase by as much as 30%. The Durango Herald reported that the Western Slope was hit especially hard, with rates up by an average of 26% in the individual market. And Colorado Public Radio reported that 82% of business owners in Colorado cited health insurance rates as their top concern about benefits.
