Ros-Lehtinen Responds After Obama Administration Puts Cuban Medical Parole Program Under Review As Another Concession To Castro Regime

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement after reports that the Cuban Medical Professional Parole (CMPP) Program is under review by the Obama Administration. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

"Thanks to President Bush, this program has been successful in allowing Cuban doctors to seek U.S. protection from the abusive communist tyranny of the Castro brothers. The CMPP is an important program that provides an opportunity for these doctors to break free from their subjugation and exploitation under the Castro medical program.

"Under President Obama, there is no abusive act committed by the tyrannical regime on the island that is too coercive that can prevent it from being excused. To say that this program 'lures' Cuban doctors to defect is the equivalent of stating that freedom, opportunity and non-servitude lure people to leave Cuba. The State Department itself has considered the export of doctors as human trafficking in its reports, and it's disgraceful that the administration is now seeking to actively facilitate this state-sponsored human trafficking whether by lowering Cuba's Trafficking in Persons ranking or by failing to protect these doctors.

"Unfortunately, it should come as no surprise to anyone who follows the 'Anything Goes' policy of Obama that the Castro brothers are allowed to get away with trafficking of medical personnel in order to advance a failed communist ideology. The 'See No Evil' maxim is alive and well with the Obama Administration."
