Rep. Loretta Sanchez Welcomes India Prime Minister Narendra Modi to United States

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) met with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a Community Reception welcoming the Prime Minister to the United States yesterday. The event was held at the SAP Center at San Jose.

Congresswoman Sanchez applauded Prime Minister Modi's leadership in strengthening the U.S.-India strategic partnership and relationship.

"It is an honor to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi to California. Indians and Indian-Americans have made important and dynamic contributions to the direction and shape of the U.S. technology industry," said Congresswoman Sanchez.

"This visit to Silicon Valley is another symbol of the collaboration and cooperation between the United States and India. Innovation and entrepreneurship are values that both of our countries excel at and serve as a model for."

This event marked the first visit to California by an Indian head of government in 33 years.

Among the members of Congress who also attended the event were Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi; Rep. Ed Royce; Rep. Ami Bera and Rep. George Holding, co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Indians and Indian Americans; Rep. Eric Swalwell; Rep. Mike Honda; Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and Rep. Jim McDermott.

Congresswoman Sanchez has traveled to India as part of a Congressional Delegation and has supported combined U.S.-India military exercises and the U.S.-India strategic partnership in intelligence sharing and counterterrorism cooperation.

India is among the top 3 export destinations in Congresswoman Sanchez's district and using the EXIM bank her district has close to $144 million in total export value, including India.
