Rep. Mimi Walters on One-Year Spending Bill

Statement

Date: Dec. 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Mimi Walters (CA-45) today released the following statement after voting in support of H.R. 2029 -- Consolidated Appropriations Act, the fiscal year 2016 Omnibus Appropriations bill that funds the federal government through September 30, 2016.

Said Rep. Mimi Walters, "While this bill is not perfect, it contains responsible funding levels that keep our government open and operating and includes several Republican priorities that will, boost national security and improve our economy. This legislation represents conservative values, by providing: a significant boost in defense funding to protect national security; a repeal of the antiquated 40-year ban on crude oil exports, which will support economic growth and help our allies; a prohibition on funds for certain Obamacare programs, putting us on the path towards dismantling this ineffective law; and provisions that will protect the U.S. from terrorists seeking to exploit our Visa Waiver Program. I'm hopeful that the Senate will act quickly in passing this long-term spending bill so we can avoid a shutdown and Congress can fulfill its Constitutional duty to appropriate funds for the federal government."
