President Vetoes Bill to Repeal President's Health Law, Stop Taxpayer Funds to Abortion Providers

Press Release

Date: Jan. 8, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

On Friday, January 8, Rep. Joseph R. Pitts (PA-16) made the following statement in response to the President's veto of the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act.

"Families across America are struggling with higher health insurance costs, less choice about their health care decisions, and half a trillion dollars in higher taxes. Congress took action to help them.

"The President had a chance to undo his failed health law, and to stop redistributing taxpayer dollars to organizations that perform abortions. Unfortunately, however, he has doubled down on the status quo that makes two-thirds of the country believe that we are on the wrong track. This adds to the already long list of tragically squandered opportunities in the Obama era. This failed law, and its harmful consequences, will be central to his legacy. Congress will continue to work to protect American families from this failed law."

Rep. Pitts currently serves as Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Health Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over much of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

On Wednesday, January 6, with Rep. Pitts voting in the affirmative, the House concurred in the Senate amendment to H.R. 3762, the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act by a vote of 240-181.
