Hastings' Statement on the Continuing Resolution

Statement

Date: Sept. 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

"Congress has become far too comfortable with the idea of waiting until the last moment to pass critical legislation, whether it is funding the government or raising the debt ceiling. Too often, we are bogged down by partisan issues that are only brought up to appease the extreme political agenda of a few in Congress. The debates of the last few weeks are no different.

"It is unfathomable to me that we continue to entertain attacks on women's health care in our country. Republicans continue to waste our time having these ridiculous debates. All the while, the critical needs of our country go unanswered. We shouldn't be governing at the brink.

"Today, the Republican-controlled House and Senate passed yet another Continuing Resolution that funds our government for only a few months. More than 150 of my Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives voted against the resolution and to shut down the government. This is shameful, and we need to get back to responsible governing."
