Rep. Barton Votes to Defund Planned Parenthood and Protect the Unborn

Statement

Date: Feb. 18, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) released the following statement after voting for H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act, and H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act.

"Today I continued the fight to protect the sanctity of life by voting for two important pro-life pieces of legislation. The recent videos we have seen exposing the true nature of Planned Parenthood videos have once again brought to our attention the need to stand up for the unborn and to take away federal funding from those who do not. Like many Americans, I was truly disgusted watching these videos and am I am proud that the House has taken action.

"I made a promise to Texans that we would investigate these despicable actions in the Energy and Commerce Committee and act on the House floor. As promised, we are investigating and we are also moving legislation to enact stronger protections for the unborn.

"I am a pro-life Member of Congress, because I have a moral and constitutional obligation to protect those who cannot protect themselves and will continue to use my voice and vote on the House Floor to back this up. Every life is precious and Congress should do everything in its power to preserve that life."
