Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] today voted to approve the Conference Report to H.R. 1735, the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a joint compromise between the House version and Senate version that were passed earlier this year. The bill authorizes defense spending and programs and includes Rep. Rothfus' provision to prohibit any further Apache transfers out of the National Guard beyond those previously announced by the Army until the Congress has the opportunity to review the recommendations of the National Commission on the Future of the Army. Congressman Rothfus released the following statement:

"This legislation provides our troops with the benefits and resources they need to protect their families and our entire nation," said Congressman Rothfus. "It is critical that we maintain a strong military advantage in an era of emerging threats and have the ability to protect vital national interests wherever they are threatened around the globe. Providing adequate funding for our military is not a partisan issue but a central responsibility of the federal government."

Rothfus continued, "The President's threat to veto the legislation is deeply misguided. With Russia on the march and now sending troops into Syria to prop up a dictator who used chemical weapons against his own people, now is not the time to shortchange our defenses."
