Location: Washington, DC

The House passed H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act (SAFE) on Thursday by a vote of 289 to 137.

"It only takes one radical Islamic terrorist to successfully pose as a refugee and enter the United States before lives are potentially lost in a Paris-like attack here at home," said Congressman Shuster. "I will not gamble with our security and safety, and this legislation will take the necessary steps in order to improve the vetting and screening process among our law enforcement and national security agencies of refugees attempting to enter this nation."

"There are not words to explain the hatred and evil that ISIS possesses, and it is clear that they will seek any path to American soil," continued Shuster. "The president wants to allow 10,000 Syrian refugees into the United States. Even if the current process were 99.9% effective, that would still mean terrorists are being enabled to enter the country. It only takes one person. We must make every single effort to protect the America people, and I intend to do everything in my power to continue working to keep our nation safe."
