Crenshaw Statement on President Obama's Executive Order on Gun Control

Statement

Date: Jan. 5, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ander Crenshaw, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government and Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, today (1/5) issued the following statement on President Obama's executive action on gun control:

"Gun ownership in this country is protected by the United States Constitution, and I will fight as I always have to make sure it remains that way. President Obama's executive order on gun control is nothing more than a unilateral attempt to infringe upon our Second Amendment rights as law-abiding citizens. He is overstepping his authority yet again.

"As heartbreaking as the recent mass shootings have been, the President's proposal would have done nothing to prevent them. Rather than limit the rights of law-abiding citizens, we must focus on the root causes of the problem. That means strengthening short-comings around the process of identifying and caring for the mentally ill, continuing to support responsible gun ownership, and enforcing our nation's gun laws."
