Governor Pat McCrory applauded the latest effort by Congress to block federal overreach that would hurt farmers and hinder economic development in North Carolina. Governor McCrory has joined 29 other states to challenge the Obama Administration's attempt to place large swaths of land in North Carolina, particularly tracts used by North Carolina farmers, under control of the federal government.

"We are pleased that Congress has joined us in fighting against the EPA's federal overreach of North Carolina waters," said Governor McCrory. "Leaders in Congress recognize that this federal rule is a huge blow to North Carolina's farmers and economic development."

Yesterday's vote by the U.S. House to pass a resolution to disapprove of the new overreaching Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule is the latest setback to WOTUS. In October, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit sided with the McCrory Administration and put a hold on the overreaching Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule until a final ruling is made.

Governor McCrory and other states who have stood up against WOTUS allege that the rule is unconstitutional and represents the latest effort by the federal government to expand its authority and control over the daily lives of American citizens. The McCrory Administration asserts the proposed redefinition may unnecessarily stifle economic growth and prosperity with little, if any, environmental benefit.
