Congressman Fattah Statement Supporting Bipartisan Budget Deal

Press Release

Date: Oct. 27, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-02), a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the announced budget agreement by House and Senate leadership:

"After weeks of stalled negotiations, I am encouraged by the newly announced budget deal reached last night between House and Senate leaders and the Obama Administration.

"I will support this budget agreement, not only because I believe it is in the best interest of the United States and the hard-working families across this nation, but because it boosts investment in medical and scientific research funding through the NSF and NIH, education and Head Start programs, jobs training services, and more. It also preserves key funding levels for my priorities on the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Subcommittee, including increased funding for neuroscience and youth mentoring.

"The tentative agreement lifts the sequester numbers so that as appropriators we have the latitude to finish our work on this year's appropriations process. I understand that this is a compromise bill, and I do not agree with every detail. However, it is a strong, responsible step forward that focuses on building our middle-class and removes the threat of a default on the country's financial obligations for the next two years."
