Rep. Sam Farr, D-Calif., released the following statement in support of the President Obama's executive action to reduce gun violence:

"President Obama has listened to the majority of Americans who want our elected officials to finally stand up to the gun industry to stop this constant gun violence in our communities. As a member of Congress who is proud of his lifetime "F' rating from the NRA, I support this executive action and believe Congress must follow his lead by passing even stronger gun safety laws.

"Gun violence has become a daily tragedy here in the United States. Each time the news reports another mass shooting; most members of Congress only offer up prayers of sympathy for the victims yet still refuse to take any action to prevent more victims. That is not genuine sympathy, that is not leadership and it is certainly not what we were elected to do. We have a moral responsibility to act so that families can feel safe again in our country. I am proud to cosponsor bipartisan gun safety legislation and will do everything I can to turn the President's commonsense executive action into congressional action."
