Rep. Sam Farr, D-Calif., released the following statement after Congress passed an omnibus spending bill to fund the government through the end of Fiscal Year 2016:
"The threat of a shutdown has finally been removed and the public can enjoy the rest of the holiday season knowing the government will remain open through next year. After months of passing one short term bill after another to temporarily keep the lights on, Congress has now passed an omnibus bill that will fund the government through the end of FY 2016. We also have a two-year budget deal in place that will hopefully prevent any election year shenanigans and allow us to keep the government funded through 2017.

"This is not a perfect bill and I remain troubled by the continued Republican attacks on the Affordable Care Act. However, we were able to remove many of the poison pill riders that the Republicans attempted ram through at the last minute. We are able to strip out the provisions to gut Wall Street regulations under Dodd-Frank, defund women's health care at Planned Parenthood and prevent any progress to address climate change.

"This bill also contains many provisions that will benefit the Central Coast. It makes increased investments in agriculture research and food safety. The bill reauthorizes the Land and Water Conservation Fund that has protected open space throughout California. The bill also creates a new oceans trust fund that can be used to launch similar conservation efforts to protect critical marine environments like the Monterey Bay. "
