Rep. Sam Farr, D-Calif., released the following statement on the shooting in San Bernardino, California:

"The news reports are filled again with the story of another community torn apart by a mass shooting, this time in our own state. Our prayers are with those affected by yesterday's shooting in San Bernardino, the lives lost in the shooting just a few days ago at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, and all of the families who lost loved ones to senseless gun violence in communities across our country.

"In the wake of this tragedy, it is now clearer than ever that we must fight for stronger gun safety legislation. We cannot allow the excessive number of mass shootings in this country to continue. Prayers alone are not enough; Congress has a moral obligation to act.

"The time for commonsense gun safety laws is now before more lives are lost to senseless gun violence. I stand by my strong record for responsible gun control. As we reflect on the lives lost in the recent tragedies, we need to be mindful that these types of incidents are preventable by enacting stronger gun control legislation and I am proud to be a cosponsor of such measures."
