Eshoo Statement on Bipartisan Budget Agreement

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.) issued the following statement regarding the bipartisan budget agreement announced by House and Senate leaders:

"The announcement today of a bipartisan budget agreement by Congressional leaders is a remarkable step for a long-term compromise to fund the government. Article I of the Constitution gives Congress the exclusive power and responsibility to fund the government and, in the process, set priorities for our country. For more than four years Congress has abdicated this responsibility by simply passing continuing resolutions to keep the government open at outdated funding levels. Compromise, not partisanship, has won this round.

"This two-year agreement makes progress for the American people by putting an end to the sequester; treating defense and non-defense funding equally; and strengthening the solvency of Social Security. It also very importantly ensures the full faith and credit of the United States by suspending the debt limit.

"I also welcome the inclusion of provisions to free up additional spectrum for mobile broadband and reform the federal Spectrum Relocation Fund. Spectrum is a finite resource vital to our innovation economy and this agreement makes inroads toward meeting the high demand for mobile broadband and using available spectrum more efficiently."
