As EPA Administrator Visits Toledo, Brown Underscores Need for Increased Clean Energy Manufacturing Jobs

As U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy visits Toledo, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is underscoring the importance of clean energy manufacturing in creating jobs and protecting the environment. Brown helped pass the recent Tax Extenders bill which extended the Production Tax Credit (PTC) and the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for five years. The PTC provides a tax credit for power generated by wind and other forms of renewable energy. The ITC is an investment credit for both commercial solar projects and for households that purchase and install solar systems.

"As President Obama echoed in his State of the Union address, our country's economic and environmental future depends on a strong domestic clean energy sector," said Brown. "Toledo's higher education institutions and businesses, like First Solar, have helped lead the way in the research, production, and installation of solar energy. Their efforts have helped create new jobs for Ohioans, and we must continue to support their important work by investing in research and development to promote solar power."

While in Toledo, Administrator McCarthy will visit Owens Community College, the University of Toledo, and First Solar to promote the green energy economy and highlight the work being done in Toledo. A representative of Brown's office will also be in attendance at First Solar.
