Congressman Marc Veasey's Two Terms in Review

Press Release

Date: Dec. 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement reviewing his key legislative accomplishments since being sworn into office in 2013 and work he has done on behalf of the residents in the 33rd Congressional District:

"As 2015 draws to a close, I would like to take some time to reflect on some of the key legislative goals we have accomplished for the 33rd Congressional District since 2013.

After hearing your concerns regarding affordable and reliable transportation for seniors through Handitran in Arlington, I offered an amendment to the long-term transportation and infrastructure bill which was approved by 363-64 vote to reinstate funding for transit services for the elderly and disabled. Transit providers that offer paratransit service in our community, like Handitran, ensure that our elderly and disabled neighbors can remain independent by giving them access to employment, education, healthcare, shopping, and the other services they need.

Of great importance to the DFW Metroplex is the recent passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This legislation is very important to the local economy as it will fund vital security programs and increase funding for Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I was a key author of the NDAA that passed through Committee and the full House on a bipartisan basis. The passed bill included six of my amendments, including my amendment that evaluated how recent Executive Actions regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program and prosecutorial discretion for undocumented immigrants currently residing in the U.S. impact our nation's military readiness if these individuals are made eligible for enlistment.

As a strong advocate for North Texas Families, I voted in favor of the two-year Bipartisan Budget Deal and FY2016 Omnibus to help grow our economy and build economic security by investing in job training programs, advanced manufacturing, education, and research.

As your U.S. Congressman, I serve as your liaison to the federal government. If you have an issue or problem with a federal government agency, my staff and I are ready to assist you. As of December 18, 2015 my staff and I have helped 1,359 DFW residents cut through the red tape and we will continue to provide services to assist you.

As the nation's economy continues to rebuild, I continue to fight to sustain and create well-paying jobs right here in our community. Since 2013, I have visited 167 businesses in the Metroplex and have invited local businesses that are actively hiring to participate in my annual job fair. This year's 3rd Annual Job Fair on November 20, 2015, brought over 80 participating companies actively hiring for 3,000 positions. I look forward to hosting many more.

I am proud to represent the 33rd Congressional District but we can only be as successful if we work together. I welcome your calls, letters, and emails so I can learn how to improve the daily lives of Texans. There is still much to accomplish, including passing comprehensive immigration reform, ensuring well-paying jobs by raising the wage for many hard-working families, and ensuring that all Texans have quality affordable health care. I look forward to working hard on behalf of the DFW Metroplex in the future."
