Representative Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) voted today to prevent an agreement that puts in place temporary restrictions on Iran's nuclear weapons program in exchange for permanent sanctions relief from going into effect.
"I cannot support a deal that fails to dismantle Iran's nuclear weapons program, provides Iran with $150 billion in sanctions relief that can be used to fund terrorism, and allows Iran to acquire intercontinental ballistic missiles in eight years.
"A majority of Americans do not support this deal, and an even larger majority of Americans do not trust Iran to follow through on their commitments," said LaMalfa. "This is not surprising given the fact that the Associated Press reported Iran will be allowed to self-inspect and self-report on their nuclear facilities. It is shocking that Congress has not seen the secret side deals negotiated between the IAEA and Iran.
"Today's vote was one of the most important votes any of us will take here in the House. Our national security is on the line in this deal. The security of Israel is on the line in this deal. And the security of our allies in the region who we trade with is on the line in this deal."
