Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, announced that Volunteers of America -- Los Angeles (VOALA) and Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center received over $12 million in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Los Angeles.

VOALA will receive $10.6 million and Dignity Health -- California Hospital Medical Center will receive $1.8 million in continuation grants.

"For 50 years now, Head Start has opened the doors of opportunity for our most vulnerable children and their families -- here in Los Angeles and across the nation," said Congressman Becerra. "This latest round of federal funding for Head Start and Early Head Start programs will help us ensure that all of our children have the support they need to succeed in life. At a time when Congress crafts budgets that sidestep the American people's priorities, I will continue to make sure that these programs are there for working families who need them most."
