Ribble Votes to Strengthen Visa System, Keep Terrorists Out

Statement

Date: Dec. 8, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Reid Ribble (WI-08) today released the following statement after voting with the majority of the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 158, the Visa Waiver Program Improvement & Terrorist Travel Prevention Act:

"Families everywhere are holding their loved ones a little tighter after the horrific terrorist attack in San Bernardino last week, and Americans are wondering what can be done to keep such an atrocity from happening again.

This bill takes an important first step by closing the loophole in our visa system that admits many foreigners who have recently visited Iraq or Syria without a second look. It would require partner countries to share intelligence on suspected terrorists as well as make our passports and immigration system more secure, preventing known extremists from dodging our security measures with fraudulent documents.

There are no perfect solutions, but the Visa Waiver Program Improvement & Terrorist Travel Prevention Act is a common sense measure to make Americans safer, and I am proud to support it."
