Statement from Governor Hassan on Gas Production Problems in Keene

Statement

Date: Dec. 20, 2015
Location: Concord, CT
Issues: Oil and Gas

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on gas safety in Keene yesterday:

"We have been closely monitoring the situation since reports of problems with the gas mixture in Liberty Utilities' Keene gas distribution system began to come in yesterday, and we activated the State Emergency Operations Center. State and local emergency management and public safety officials will continue to work closely with the Keene Emergency Operations Center to ensure that the situation has been resolved. Gas leaks can be a serious threat to public safety and public health, and I will ask the Public Utilities Commission to open a full investigation of this event. In the meantime, I urge all residents in the area to continue to stay vigilant and watch for signs of exposure, and if they suspect any issues, to shut off gas appliances and heating systems, evacuate to safety, and call 911. I also urge all Granite Staters to invest in carbon monoxide detectors as they can save lives in situations like this."
