NDAA Passage Tantamount to Presidential Veto Override

Statement

Date: Nov. 5, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Today, the House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) reauthorization 370 -- 58. Two weeks ago, President Obama vetoed the bipartisan bill. The NDAA for 2016 will head to the Senate, and then back to the President's desk, where it is expected to be signed into law.

Congressman Russell (OK-5) commented on this morning's vote saying, "Today's vote shows a repudiation of the President's veto. Every provision that was in the bipartisan NDAA remains and those provisions are extremely important to the readiness of our armed forces and the national security of our country. The President's veto was playing with fire, and this vote is tantamount to an override of that veto. No president should ever play politics with our military, and I am proud that the nation's representatives upheld the constitutional requirement to defend our Republic."
