Feeney Helps Volusia Sheriff Acquire Patrol Boat
Personal Watercraft Will Be On-Loan from Kawasaki
U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) announced that today the Volusia County Sheriff's Department received a new on-water patrol vessel to enhance its law enforcement capabilities on Volusia County's waterways and coastline. The Sheriff's Department was nominated by Congressman Feeney to receive the patrol boat and the loan was facilitated by the Congressional PWC Loan Program, which was launched by industry manufacturers this year.
"Thanks to this wonderful program offered by Kawasaki, the Volusia County Sheriff's Department will receive a state-of-the-art vessel to assist in patrolling the county's waterways. This private loan provides Volusia with a useful resource, without imposing additional costs on taxpayers," stated Rep. Feeney. "I applaud the program for bringing industry leaders together with the public safety community to better protect and serve our residents."
The boat will be on loan from Daytona Fun Machines to the Volusia County Sheriff Department for one year. To date, manufacturers have loaned approximately 15,000 vessels to local police, fire, rescue and marine mammal research organizations across the country.
"We are delighted that Daytona Fun Machines was able to work with us to make this loan possible," said Maureen Healey, Executive Director of the Personal Watercraft Industry Association. "This personal watercraft will enhance the Volusia County Sheriff Department's on-water capabilities and make the community safer."
A spokesperson for the Volusia County Sheriff's Department expressed the Department's appreciation for the loan, noting specifically that the size of the personal watercraft will allow deputies to transport the vessel on a trailer to areas where it is most needed.
"We're extremely appreciative of Congressman Feeney's leadership and Daytona Fun Machines' civic spirit in providing this craft for use by our deputies," said Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson. "This is a great law enforcement tool that will augment our search and rescue and enforcement capabilities and help keep Volusia's waterways safe. This is a textbook example of a public-private partnership where everyone is a winner."
