Reid Statement On Nevada Universities And Businesses Joining Act on Climate Pledge

Statement

Date: Nov. 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement as more than 200 institutions of higher learning throughout the country -- including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) and the Desert Research Institute -- signed the White House American Campuses Act on Climate Pledge, demonstrating their commitment to carrying out their own sustainability goals and supporting strong action on climate change by world leaders. Several Nevada businesses also signed the Business Act on Climate pledge, including MGM Resorts International, Switch, NV Energy, Valley Electric Association and Ormat Technologies. Combined these schools and businesses employ more than 66,000 people in Nevada:

"Climate change is one of the most serious issues facing Nevada, our country and our planet. I was happy to see so many institutions of higher education and businesses in Nevada pledge to do something about it. These leaders are taking important steps to address climate change by pledging to promote clean energy, reducing carbon emissions and supporting U.S. efforts to reach a historic agreement on climate change in Paris. That approach has been embraced throughout Nevada, and it is one of the reasons why the Silver State is a national leader in renewable energy."
