Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34) released a statement following the Department of Labor's announcement that the economy added 271,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate dropped to five percent:

"271,000 more Americans back at work and the nation's unemployment rate down to five percent, its lowest level since April 2008 -- before the beginning of the Great Recession.

"It hasn't been easy, especially with a gridlocked Congress, but President Obama has worked hard to help our workers and businesses have a fighting chance in this comeback. The crucial piece of this puzzle that's missing is growing wages for all those Americans who've battled through the Great Recession.

"Time for this Republican Congress to stop the charade "investigations" and instead join Democrats to enact policies that grow our economy and workers' paychecks."
