Statement

Date: Nov. 5, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the induction of Cesar Chavez to its Hall of Heroes. Senator Harry Reid has continuously led efforts in Congress to honor the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez, and he was proud to petition the City of Las Vegas to rename Pecos Road "Camino Cesar Chavez."

"I applaud the USDA for honoring the legacy of a great American. Cesar Chavez dedicated his life to improving the working conditions of our nation's farmworkers. His inclusion in the USDA's Hall of Heroes will serve as a reminder that we must do everything within our reach to ensure that those who help put food on our tables are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve and can provide for their own families."
