Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted, for the 61st time, to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The vote was 240 to 189. Takai voted against the measure.

"Once again, Congress is fixated on repealing a bill that has not only been upheld by the Supreme Court, but has dramatically expanded health coverage in our country and greatly improved the lives of many Americans. ACA is the law of the land, and Congress should instead focus on pressing issues like avoiding the first-ever American credit default and continuing to fund our government," Takai said.

Many of America's vital programs such as the Highway Trust Fund and the Export-Import Bank have either expired or are near expiring. It has been projected that the United States will reach its debt limit by November 3. Congress must act before December 11 to avoid another government shutdown, yet it continues to kick the can down the road.

"This inaction has also prevented Congress from taking important action to improve the lives of Americans across the country. I came to Congress to serve the people of Hawaii and advocate for the services they need. That's why I've co-sponsored the "Seniors Deserve A Raise Act' (H.R. 3761) to give back to our kupuna who have worked their whole lives to provide a better world for us," Takai concluded.
